Pratuang Sornkham, the Director of Phuket International Airport, said that there would be more international flights coming to Phuket this high season especially from Korea, Russia, and China. He was not sure if there would be more flights from Japan since the airport did not get any confirmation from the country. Moreover, it was estimated that more flights from Europe, especially Scandinavia, would land in Phuket at the time as well.
He added that now there are about 100 flights at Phuket International Airport per day. During this high season, there would be over 20 more flights leading passengers from every part of the world to Phuket. The exact flight numbers would be concluded in October. He said that it was a good sign for Phuket tourism since the 5-star airlines like Qatar Air, Emirates, and Etihad would open their direct flights to Phuket in the coming high season. He commented that Phuket road shows in many countries helped attract people to the island. He expressed confidence that any political and economic problems would not affect tourism in Phuket that much.
